The pulse races, the rhythm of events is high, Bach's familiar harmonies, its popular melodic twists and turns go round and round. Shouldn't the original Goldberg Variations once pacify a restless mind? World premiere for violin solo & string orchestra.

Niklas Liepe's "Goldberg Reflections", which he developed into an extensive suite together with the composer and arranger Andreas N. Tarkmann, play cleverly with the listener's expectations. Tarkmann has set 14 of the 31 independent sets of Bach's works, which are considered the epitome of harmony, for string orchestra, largely true to the original. The order of the transcribed variations follows their position in Bach's cycle, so that the familiar flow remains perceptible. But interspersed between them are no fewer than eleven new compositions written especially for this project, which bring the baroque masterpiece into the immediate present: Bizarre fragments of memory. Serrated outlines like dancers in the staccato of stroboscopic light. A caricature of the first change in Bach's Goldberg Variations that erupts into harsh dissonance.

Niklas Liepe
One of these highly talented young soloists who consistently follow their own path. One of those artists who are constantly hatching new ideas and in the process also tackle projects that really require courage, because concept and artistic demands border on presumption. With his Paganini Project, Niklas Liepe caused astonishment and brilliant reviews internationally last year. In 2017, he and his brother founded the festival "Liepe & Co. Festival in den Stahlhallen am Südbahnhof in Hanover", in which he also re-explores the boundaries of classical music.
