WELTEN & Olicía

Cineastic instrumental music between jazz, indie, sound art and classical music meets live visuals and "NeoLoopJazz".

The Leipzig band WELTEN composes and plays cinematic instrumental music between jazz, indie, sound art and classical music of particular emotional depth. The attention the ensemble receives internationally testifies to the great potential of these newcomers. WELTEN is considered one of the most innovative young jazz projects in this country: Since April 2017 they published two albums and played more then 80 concerts. These include performances at Múlinn Jazz Club - Harpa in Reykjavik (Iceland), Deutschlandfunk Kultur, and diverse festivals, such as Fusion, Seanaps, At.tension and Skandalös. In November 2019 they'll release their third album AKUREYRI and go on tour.

WELTEN, that is Lukas Backs (alto flute, flute, bass clarinet, percussion), Laurenz Welten (alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, bass clarinet, clarinet), Jonas Petry (drums, space drum, tonbak, daf, water bowl, objects,) and Valentin Mühlberger (Wurlitzer, Moog, voice). At the Theater im Delphi they will be accompanied by live visuals from trq_billy.

Olicía (Anna-Lucia Rupp & Fama M’Boup) are "NeoLoopJazz" from Berlin and Dresden. The two young women enter a field of tension between human voice, acoustic instruments, free improvisation and the use of modern electronic possibilities. Gold-coloured crackling contrasts break up velvety blue structures. A sound world between basslines, polyrhythmic dancefloor and electronic elements, partially alienated voices, up to soundscapes of meditative power.
