Celebrated German baritone Benjamin Appl explores Argentinean tango. Lecture concert and part of the new documentary TV series BREAKING MUSIC.

The current front-runner in the new generation of Lieder singers travelled to Buenos Aires and dived into an unknown world of Argentinean Tango. At Theater im Delphi, Benjamin Appl and the renowned Argentinean pianist Jose Gallardo bring toghether tango and lieder - two cultures that are totally distant but close in different ways. They come to life in the same musical space.

The lecture concert will be recorded live for the new BREAKING MUSIC documentary tv series by AMC Networks.

Biography

Benjamin Appl received his first vocal training with the Regensburger Domspatzen and - in addition to a successful study of business administration - completed his vocal training (with Edith Wiens and Helmut Deutsch, among others) at the University of Music and Theatre Munich and the Bavarian Theatre Academy August Everding with distinction. Appl gave recitals at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall and at the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg and Hohenems and also performed at the Rheingau Music Festival, Heidelberger Frühling, Klavierfestival Ruhr, Ravinia Festival Chicago and Oxford Lieder Festival. In 2014 Benjamin Appl was selected for the Radio 3 New Generation Artists Scheme of the British Broadcasting Corporation BBC. He is Gramophone Award Young Artist of the Year 2016 and ECHO Rising Star 2015-16.
