SEX WITH MADONNA

Chris Jäger

As if struck by lightning, they dance euphorically, long deprived of their strength. Their bodies beg for relaxation but they find no peace. "When I had sex with Madonna I felt good for a moment. (...) She had been singing about me all her life." (Thomas Melle, bipolar writer)

In this contemporary dance trio, Berlin choreographer Chris Jäger takes on the socially tabooed bipolar disorder in its physicality. How does a manic body move and how a depressed one? The tension between mania and depression in a single person, which sheerly tears body and mind apart, is the core of the choreographic examination.

The Berlin premiere of "SEX WITH MADONNA" uses the entire space of the Theater im Delphi. A camera follows the dancers into the smallest corner, peeling walls, torn bodies, burning spotlights and souls become one.

Also called manic-depressive illness, bipolar disorder is one of the most common mental illnesses in Germany and often puts those affected in precarious situations. The video edit of "DANCE WITH MADONNA" will be available on the YouTube channel of the Theater im Delphi until May 31, 2021.
