gamut inc presents a hypnotic evening with computer-controlled pipes and lights.

The 7th edition of gamut inc‘s series PYTHO is centered around their new modular organ BLACK SQUARE. Individually change of wind pressure of each pipe of this unique instrument enabling completely new sounds and even resynthesis processes. Moving between harmony and noise, the pieces are creating an euphorically intoxicating maelstrom of overlapping, accelerating textures and harmonies.

In the exploratory music series PYTHO, the ensemble gamut inc has been investigating new music theatre and concert formats at the Theater im Delphi Berlin since 2021.

BLACK SQUARE is a computer-controlled wind-dynamic organ built by Tony Decap for gamut inc 2025.
The two identical organ modules with 64 stopped pipes each are capable of creating stereophony or can be detuned easily, allowing ¼ tone or any other microtuning. Of course, by precisely changing the wind pressure you can achieve microtuning as well, as Decap’s SmartValve allows for the wind pressure of each pipe to be changed individually within milliseconds. All pipes were manufactured by a CNC milling machine, allowing for ranks that start at the top as stopped flute and gradually taper to gamba towards the bottom. The first module was then voiced by hand, and this voicing was copied to the second module.
