"Ariadne auf Naxos," an opera about opera, about fidelity and change, and about the transformative power of love.
A wealthy man commissioned a young composer to write an opera for a festival: Ariadne auf Naxos. However, because he found this tragic opera about Ariadne, who was abandoned by her lover Theseus, not entertaining enough, he also invited a troupe of comedians to perform their antics simultaneously with the tragedy. It is a challenge for the composer, but also an opportunity. This collision between the sorrow of the abandoned Ariadne and the exuberance of the comedienne Zerbinetta takes place in "Ariadne auf Naxos".
