Fresh, enthusiastic musical experience with works by Bottesini, Shostakovich and Richard Strauss.

Scholarship holders of the RSB Orchestra Academy. This sounds like freshness and enthusiasm, curiosity and passion. In "their" chamber concert, the young people put Bottesini on a silver platter. Why? Because he knew how to compose excellently for double bass. From Shostakovich they present the rousing "neo-baroque" Octet for an eight-piece string ensemble. To the 18-year-old Shostakovich, it was a youthful experiment; to the 81-year-old Strauss, his "Metamorphoses" were considered an age-appropriate "study." They reflected nothing less than the beauty of the entire music of the Occident in the face of the ruins into which Europe had been plunged by the Second World War instigated by the German National Socialists from 1939 to 1945.

Program:
Giovanni Bottesini
Quintet for two violins, viola, violoncello and double bass in C minor op. 99
Dmitri Shostakovich
Two pieces for string octet op. 11
Richard Strauss
"Metamorphoses" - original version for string septet, reconstructed by Rudolf Leopold
