Funken der Liebe

Live radio play based on the first German radio drama

Limited Blindness

Remake of a primeval moment in radio making: the oldest preserved radio play is re-performed with the question, "How do we behave today in and against the incessant stream of radio information?"

"SOS...rao rao...Foyn" by Friedrich Wolf recounts the real-life crash of the airship Italia in 1929 and the dramatic rescue operation via international radio networking. The audio play highlights the invention of radio and its power of solidarity as the play’s subject itself.
The promise of the drama is to overcome all distances and national media bubbles. The performers renew this longing with a modern view of today. In speech, acts and gestures; and exhibited on isolated pedestals, the performers struggle for ways out of the loneliness of our highly virtualised world.

"Funken der Liebe" celebrated its premiere at the Berliner Haus des Rundfunks 90th anniversary. The audio version was nominated for Radio Play of the Month March 2022 by the German Academy of Performing Arts.
