Anima Shirvani

Goethe's Divan is one of the most intimate and crucial confrontations of Western literary history with the Orient, and has inspired numerous artists of all disciplines since its creation. The musicians of Anima Shirvani give it a musical interpretation based on their personal, rich context.

The concert program of the "Divan "presents pieces of important German composers of the 16th/17th century such as Michael Praetorius, Samuel Scheidt and Ludwig Senfl, as well as works of the Persian/Azerbaijani traditional music form Mugam and Dastgah.

Ensemble Anima Shirvani is an ensemble specialized in historical performance practice, linking European Renaissance and Baroque music with traditional music from Persia, the Caucasus and Anatolia. The music, based mostly on improvisation according to specific rules passed down orally over centuries, dates back to the Renaissance and the Middle Ages, when Europe was experiencing its cultural "renaissance." Thus was born the idea of a "Silk Route", an ensemble that explores and combines music from both cultures. Consisting of internationally renowned artists, the ensemble is dedicated to authenticity of performance on 16th and 17th century instruments at an exceptionally high level.
