Exil in Hollywood

Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin (RSB)

Die Rettung der Musik im Exil RSB presents film music of the early Hollywood years: Hanns Eisler, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Igor Strawinsky und Werner Richard Heymann.

Rescued
Millions of people from an entire continent had to fear for their lives after the National Socialists came to power in Germany, especially after this regime began to assert its claims aggressively and with force of arms in all directions. Millions of people lost their lives. A few of them managed to escape to safety, which sometimes did not prevent loneliness and economic hardship. But it was precisely the exiles who caused a furore in Hollywood, who helped to build up a sustainable peaceful industry: the film industry. Whereby first-class musicians such as Hanns Eisler, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Igor Stravinsky and Werner Richard Heymann (whose evergreens can be heard in our concert with the friendly support of Elisabeth Trautwein-Heymann) like catalysts animated the whole industry. Because film music - with the knowledge of the psychologically effective "secret juices" of music in the wake of Richard Wagner - contained the guarantee of success of the film. It is thought that the music of those endangered in Europe can be heard with the relief of pure salvation from the clutches of war and persecution, even outside the film scores. A joyful celebration of those who were lucky enough to be born twice. But where will the Hollywood of man-made, global climate change be?
